MiniCine setup guide: choose the job first
Originally published · Revised
A useful lighting kit starts with the shot. Decide what the light needs to illuminate, where it can sit, how you will control spill, and whether you will need to adjust it after the setup is built.
For a desk, workbench, or tabletop.
Creator Edition offers three selectable color temperatures and a compact family of mounting and shaping options. An eggcrate and retention ring make a small arrangement without doors. Add doors when spill control matters, or choose diffusion for a different treatment of the source.
For interviews and small studios.
A small fixture can create a catchlight, separate a shoulder or hair from the background, or add an accent behind the subject. In close setups it can also contribute to key or fill. Consider the working distance and ambient light; a compact fixture and small diffusion accessory do not replace every larger soft source.
For a light that is difficult to reach.
Professional’s remote operation and touchscreen suit a setup that needs more adjustment. Its continuous 2200–6700 K range provides choices between Creator Edition’s 3000 / 4000 / 5000 K settings, as well as warmer and cooler options.
Choose the support, then the power.
The mounting range includes yoke and articulated options using baby-mount and 1/4″-20 connections. Choose the adapter for the stand, arm, or tabletop support you already have. Power accessories must match the edition, installed bulb, connector, and total load; shared mounting sizes do not establish electrical compatibility.
